City of Unley are expanding their Marketing and Communications team and looking to recruit a full-time Communications Support Officer. If you’re keen to kick off (or level up) your communications career somewhere that actually makes a difference—this is your chance. You’ll work on real projects in a team that genuinely cares about community and creativity. It’s the kind of role that gives you stories to tell, skills to grow, and work that means something.

Who’s hiring?
The City of Unley is five minutes from the Adelaide CBD, known for its leafy streets, inclusive and connected programs, and that warm, community feel. But here’s what you might not know: it’s also a great place to further build your career. Especially if you’re an emerging comms professional who wants to do work that actually matters. We’re growing our Strategic Communications, Marketing and Engagement team (say that five times fast), and we’re on the hunt for a Communications Support Officer who’s got energy, curiosity, and just the right amount of ‘I love this community almost as much as I love getting things done.’ If you’re ready to use your skills to make a genuine difference (and find out just how rewarding local government can be), keep reading.

So, what’s the role?
As our new Communications Support Officer, you’ll help shape the stories that connect our community, support engagement that feels meaningful—not box-ticky—and lend a hand on campaigns that matter.  You’ll dive into real projects—think city-wide events, community campaigns, and content that helps people feel connected to where they live. If you’re organised, creative, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves (and maybe colour-code a spreadsheet or two), this could be the role for you.

Here’s what a typical day in the role might look like:

  • Drafting and editing content for the website, intranet, newsletters, and social media
  • Scheduling posts and keeping our online channels fresh, friendly and informative
  • Rolling up your sleeves to support campaigns, community engagement events and all the promo bits in between
  • Supporting the coordination of Council publications and internal communications
  • Liaising with stakeholders and suppliers to keep projects moving
  • Helping to evaluate communications reach through analytics and surveys so we can do even better next time
  • Monitoring social media and helping with community feedback and questions (because we’re not just here to broadcast—we’re here to listen)
  • Providing general admin support to help keep the team running smoothly
Enough about us—let's talk about whether this role is for you!
You’re organised, creative, and ready to learn. You’re curious about how communications shape communities and excited by the opportunity to build your skills in a purpose-driven environment.

You’re someone who:
  • Has a degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field
  • Writes clearly, thoughtfully, and with the audience in mind
  • Has a natural eye for detail and design (Canva lovers, welcome!)
  • Understands how social media works—and how to make it work well
  • Communicates confidently and professionally, both in writing and in person
  • Brings a proactive, can-do attitude and thrives in a collaborative team
Bonus points if you:
  • Have experience using scheduling tools, content management systems or design software
  • Have a growing interest in photography, video editing, or visual storytelling
  • Want to work in (or already love) local government and community-focused work
What’s in it for you?
  • A full-time gig in a fast-paced, future-focused comms team where no two days (or Instagram captions) are the same
  • Mentorship from senior comms pros who want to see you thrive
  • A workplace that genuinely values diversity, inclusion, and community impact
  • Real projects, real stories, real people—and plenty of “I can’t believe I get to call this work” moments along the way
  • A chance to build your comms career and contribute to our community.
For a confidential discussion about the opportunity, please don't hesitate to contact Tracy Davidson at Mansfield & Co on 0411 487 308. Please provide all applications in MS Word
